Flexible seating allows students to choose where they learn and work the best within the classroom. Throughout our day students are able to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations such as whiteboard tables, lounge chairs, a traditional kitchen table, tall standing tables, as well as cushions to lay on the floor with clipboards. When students are comfortable in the classroom they are more engaged and motivated to learn. I have transitioned slowly to flexible seating with this being my first year where students have no assigned seat. I am amazed at how well students transition between seats and activities without problems. Students quickly figure out what works best for them and in what situations those choices are best.
I truly have an engaged classroom of students who walk in the door excited and ready to learn each and every day, knowing they will be comfortable and given choices that work best for them.
The seating that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The futon will be comfortable for reading and working together. The blue stools will allow students to move about easily between areas as well as working together in and out of the classroom. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
Student choice has created a classroom of engaged learners. Enhancing the seating choices enhances learning. I have seen first hand the positive changes of flexible seating and am excited to offer more choices to my students. Thank you for considering my classroom for your donation to benefit engaged students.
