My students have been slowly discovering the joy of reading in their native language. Although I have access to PDF versions of many things, I find that my students benefit the most from having a book in their hands that they can manipulate and read both in the classroom and at home. In order to truly teach them how to read and love literature in Spanish, I need actual books for them to check out. La casa en Mango Street is a novel that can be easily read and students can easily relate to the main character, Esperanza. After reading, we will analyze and produce our own childhood experience in Spanish.
