As an occupational therapist in one of NYC's high-needs schools, I encounter struggling students on a daily basis. My children not only experience an environmental disadvantage, but often physical, mental, and emotional disadvantages as well.
Many do not have access to computers, tablets, or even developmentally appropriate toys at home. They come to school having had limited exposure to these things and thus are limited in their development.
It is my role in the school to help them overcome any hurdles that they face when trying to be successful in their classrooms. With diagnoses such as ADHD, autism, language impairments, and learning disabilities the hurdles are high and numerous.
With iPads available my students will be able to access various educational and therapeutic apps to help them catch up with their non-disabled peers. In addition we all know how motivating technology is to all children regardless of their functional ability.
My students will not only benefit educationally from your donation, but will also have access to something they love and otherwise may never experience.
Thank you in advance for helping me and my students achieve success within NYC's public education system!
