I have 150 amazing young people. They are excited to learn and look to their education as a way to better the lives of themselves and their families. Our school district is highly low socio-economic with high levels of second language learners. Despite challenges that many of these students face, they are eager learners and have so many scientific questions that they want to investigate when they enter the classroom. They aspire to be doctors, teachers, scientists, and many more professions, which I want to encourage with research and more technological aptitude in the classroom. I don't want those moments of pure excitement over a new found concept to be limited to what I bring to the class. I want them to feel they have the capacity to seek their own answers and foster the technological savvy that the students will need in the 21st century.
