I teach art to students in grades K-6. We are in a small city in Maine that is mostly working class. A few of my students never need to worry about having enough. Many, however, struggle with food insecurity, having warm clothing for the winter, and worries about how their parents will pay the rent every month. For many of those kids, art is a safe place where they can find success and self-fulfillment.
