Most of my students can't afford a composition notebook and rarely do all have a pencil when they come to class. I have purchased these items for my students and would lend pencils daily in the past. Other consumable supplies like tape, markers, glue sticks, paper are used during labs, for interactive notebook activities, and other projects. I like using visual modalities to teach my students and encourage use of skills from their creative interests to help them grasp what we're learning. We use dry erase markers for graphing, note taking and during our Jeopardy study sessions where students write their teams responses. I made the dry erase boards from a large piece of shower board purchased from Home Depot and they even second as privacy screens during tests. I would use the singing bowl to grab attention and transition when needed rather than raising my voice. Currently I use a rain stick but it's too cumbersome. The science posters will be a nice update to the class and fit with our focus on these wondrous but hard to grasp concepts. It will enhance my use of small mindfulness practices to teach grit and equanimity. The books would fit perfectly with our team-wide practice of including 10 minutes of silent reading after lunch. It would provide them additional context for what we're learning and improve their scientific literacy. Thank you for considering my project.
