"Teacher, I keep bumping into them!" is continually what I hear on the mats. Two years ago I would have never thought this would be possible. I was just an optimistic first year teacher trying to share what I love with my students after-school through Jiu Jitsu. I crowd sourced $1,500 to purchase a 20 x 20 foot wrestling mat with some networking and a lot of luck, SHOUT OUT Want VS Need HBA for their generous donations! My first year, we had second and third grades 20 of them so there was plenty of room.
Well, this year our second the kids grew taller, and we expanded a bit. On a good day there is a minimum of 25 students, from second, third, fourth, and fifth grade attending the program. They receive a free dinner and get to learn the "Gentle Art" with me a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Blue belt and fifth grade teacher Mr. Rodriguez free of any cost.
This is where you come in, we have outgrown our mats and are in need of some support to purchase some more. I could preach to you about demographics, how my students are low income, how they are at risk, they need something positive to do when school gets out, and they need this.
But I'm not, because the truth of the matter is I just want to share something I love with my students.
Something that has changed my life and I am hoping will change theirs as well. Because I am in the business of changing lives and with a financial contribution or social media share you can too!
