My choice of the flex back chairs and calming pillows were made so that my students will have a peaceful area in my room. We are teaching our students about Tool Box; which shows them ways of internally gaining control over their emotions, build mastery, and learn to empathize with their fellow schoolmates. These flex seats and pillows are perfect in aiding them through this process.
Along with the Tool Box, we are creating communities within our classrooms. The communities are where we sit together and discuss any issue(s) that are in the news, in the school, or any place that it affects them. With the Post It Wall Paper, my students will create a Community Parking Lot, which will allow them to write whatever is on their minds but in an anonymous way. Some things they can post would be ideas for science experiments, asking questions about the homework but not wanting to be singled out because they had problems, or maybe just saying something good about their day. The possibilities are endless, but making this Parking Lot will help us in communicating and making our classroom community strong.
The butterflies are going to be the classes way of helping the environment while learning the circle of life. This will be something they can monitor everyday and then release when the time comes.
