My students are part of a community of learners that is extraordinarily diverse. In my classroom students might be coming from a high economic status to learners who have families that are trying to find stable housing options. This provides a platform for students to learn from each other by virtue of their vastly different experiences. All students in my class have a story of resilience, adapting to different circumstances, and abilities to problem solve. The beauty of my school is that we have a diverse community coming from all parts of world (literally) in which they learn and grow together! This is a strength in my biology class since students leverage each others strengths to explore science in meaningful ways.
