School has become a factory. We pump essential knowledge into students' heads so they perform well on standardized tests and the cycle repeats itself year after year. This academic year, my students and I are returning to reading, and to do this, we are setting up our first classroom library.
I have an ambitious goal for my students to read 40 books this year, but we need your help! By donating, you will help provide a multitude of culturally relevant texts that are stimulating and enjoyable for my students. The best part about the library is that students will have a choice in what they want to read!
By returning to reading, we are increasing vocabulary, comprehension, and analysis! Students who never saw themselves as avid readers will find excitement in independent reading time and students who already read extensively will be delighted by the material.
