My students are future lawyers, teachers, engineers and doctors. That is what I tell them to aim for, nothing less. They all know that reading is a must for anything they desire to be. Every single one of my students wants to get better at reading. Some are struggling due to dyslexia and other issues. But they have the desire. I can work with that! My students don't all learn the same way. Not all can sit with an actual book in their hands and read. Some are visual and auditory learners.
Some need stories to be read to them or some need to follow along or need animation, especially my ADD/ADHD learners. During independent reading my students are to be reading for a specified amount of time. When it's time to stop, they don't want to(even my reluctant reader on my iPad! Imagine what I could do with 5 iPads in my class! Our school is a Pre-K to 5th low income school, so many resources are limited at school and at home.
