The kids in Room 20 are an energetic group of ten year olds. Some live on ranches, some in trailer parks. Some are autistic, some are emotionally disturbed. Like many classrooms in California, my students are diverse, yet share the same needs. One of them is physical fitness. Some of my students are overweight, some are obese.
I spend many classroom hours teaching nutrition and healthy eating. We spend hours in the school garden and have local experts come talk to the kids about healthy lifestyles. The purpose of this project is to get them up and moving, in a fun, engaging way. My students will engage in jump roping daily- in a fun combination of tricks and dance and (secretly) great exercise. We will be class jump rope team and perform at our spring open house. I have always had my students jump rope- they love it! Each year I purchase inexpensive jump ropes and they fall apart. Jumpropes purcahsed through this grant will last for many years to come.
