The school that I work for is a free college-preparatory public school that serves a population that is mostly made up of students that come from a Hispanic background/are black. The mission of the school is to ensure that our students internalize the habits of self-reliance, honor, achievement, responsibility to others, and persistence in order to become life-long learners capable of excelling in college and committed to transforming tomorrow. My students are an interesting bunch, in that they range from "very low" to "very high". I think that at this point, they still have a naive love for science, in that they like learning about it just for the sake of learning. Motivation comes and goes, but they all do have a goal in mind- we made sure to establish that early on. They are at school for their own unique purpose, and they are working hard to achieve their goals for the year- whether that is to make their parents proud, or to earn success for themselves.
