Robotics and programming with Sphero SPRK+ and Code & Go robots is a simple yet powerful way to encourage curiosity and creativity in elementary students, as well as more abstract concepts, such as computer programming and engineering.
Computer programming with robots will allow my students to develop problem-solving and computational thinking through the use of concrete, hands-on devices in a structured play environment. Children use their eyes and hands to explore and understand the world through manipulation of concrete objects. By writing simple programs to manipulate the robots, they are able to make the connection between abstract code and real world results.
Furthermore, computer programming with robots introduces students to engineering concepts such as planning and design, testing and re-testing, persistence, and how to manage and learn from failure. In the planning and design phase of programming, students use higher executive functions to plan and organize the steps to achieve the desired behavior of the robot. As students are testing and improving their robot programs, they are constantly exercising their creativity and problem-solving skills through failure, re-assessment and persistence.
When I ask my students what the best part of learning computer programming with robots will be is that it will be a fun way to learn something new. Help me give my students the opportunity to participate in an engaging learning environment with Sphero SPRK+ and Code & Go robots, where they can be curious, creative and just have fun. Thank you for your support.
