The best and most authentic learning experiences in early education come from hands on exploration and meaningful play. When we incorporate that play into our teaching, students are more likely to build meaningful learning experiences. Not only that, but students are also able to learn how to work together to create buildings or other structures. They help each other bridge concepts together. It encourages social interactions that are so essential in the early years. That is why I have set up this project- to be able to provide my students with different learning materials and supplies that I feel would aide in these goals. Simple supplies that I do not have, like the trays, can be used for everyday activities. With them, students can explore sand or shaving cream to practice pre-writing skills or dot markers to make art collages. The washable sensory materials can also aide in helping with literacy centers. Materials such as the magnetic tiles and crazy shape blocks can be used by various students at a time, either as individuals or as collaborative play, to build different structures. As a first year teacher, I do not have enough supplies/ materials for my students. I try and make or supply a lot. However, often times it is not enough. The supplies and materials currently in my classroom have seen a lot of use. As a result, most are coming apart and breaking. We also do not have much variety in what we can use as learning/play materials. Every single thing that I put on my list will most likely get used on a daily basis during centers or during whole group as teaching tools. My job as a teacher is to facilitate fun learning experiences. Please help me do so by donating to my project!
