My students are continuing their journey to becoming independent readers. They are enthusiastic and determined to continue to read, understand, and explore literature, both fiction and non-fiction. My pre-k students are learning to take independent steps towards developing strong pre-reading skills including recognition of letters, numbers, & pre-primer sight words, and writing.
My students live in the South and Central neighborhoods of St. Louis City, which is both culturally and economically diverse. Our school population is predominately African-American students, 98% of which are eligible for free/reduced lunch. Many of our students come from single-parent households and blended families.
My students are curious, enthusiastic, and willing to see and explore in (and out!) of their academic world. Reading independently, as well as the skills it helps to develop, will only continue to open doors for success!
