My students are children that come from economically challenged homes. Our school has over 85% free and reduced lunch status and we are a Title 1 school. My kindergarten students come to school every day and enter a world that they can only be part of for the hours they are there. Many have no books to read at home and only hear the magic of a good story for the first time in my classroom. A large majority of them come to school lacking the oral language skills to be successful. Hearing stories read aloud to them drastically improve their abilities to become readers themselves and learn to love reading for a lifetime!
