Regrouping Kits are a purposeful hands on practice that cover the four mathematical operations and aid the development of fluency of these skills. These kits are an active alternative to math manipulatives and use tactile competency to make complex problems easy to solve with a fun self-checking system. The objective of the regrouping kits is to improve overall student performance in the four basic mathematical operations. The expected outcome is to help the students reasoning and mathematical computation.
The students will gain automaticity in solving these mathematical operations in concrete as well as abstract form.
Our students struggle with regrouping because they need more advanced hands on manipulatives in the classroom. We believe that implementing regrouping kits will aid in the development of students' understanding of math concepts. Regrouping kits are an innovative way to bring collaborative conversation into the classroom and improve academic vocabulary. This will allow the students to work collaboratively with a variety of strategies that they discover based on the student expectation being taught.
Regrouping kits will help students approach, master and build fluency with an important and sometimes difficult concept. This will allow students to maximize their learning in the classroom.
The expected outcome will be:
鈼 Having students become more confident in their ability to solve operational problems.
鈼 To increase engagement with spiraled math skills in a fun and hands on way.
鈼 To have highly motivated students who take ownership and increase confidence and fluency that will encourage enrichment opportunities with operations that may need more focus.
鈼 To provide tactile learning opportunities for students who need hands on learning.
