All of my students have been in the United States for less than two years. My students come from many countries, such as the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Haiti. My students live in poverty. They all receivs free lunch, as well as qualify for other assistance due to income level. My students are hard workers, and often help provide for their families. My students are working towards becoming bilingual-a true asset for the changing demographics of this country.
Our school was recently moved to the "old" high school building. My students do not receive bussing to school, so they often find themselves walking in unbearable heat, snow, or rain to get to school. Due to the building's age, the classrooms do not have AC and the heating is unpredictable. We do not have a computer facility in our building, or regular access to materials for students to practice 21st century learning skills.
