The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a home. In other words, I know exactly where everything will go: our Peace Corner. The purpose of a peace corner is to create an inviting, comfortable, and safe place for a child to find peace. Like adults, children also need a space to regroup at times. The purpose of our Peace Corner is to support peace within ourselves and others by using materials that represent and encourage positive behaviors, mindfulness, and self-reflection. My students are diverse in abilities and personalities, which is why having different options and a variety of tools are helpful. I hope to create an intentional space in our classroom that will support the building of a deeper, more meaningful, and collaborative relationship with ourselves and one another.
"Peace comes from being able to contribute the best that we have, and all that we are, toward creating a world that supports everyone. But it is also securing the space for others to contribute the best that they have and all that they are.鈥 ~ Hafsat Abiola.
By implementing our Peace Corner, my students will have a place for them to grow a better understanding of themselves in order to better understand others and thrive in our classroom and school community. I am certain that these materials and supplies will be a part of the efforts of my students' social and emotional growth.
