Hello and thank you for looking at this page and project! We have a lot of fun in our urban classroom integrating independent, small and whole group activities into our day, but we could always use your support. The students have severe and multiple disabilities and work tirelessly to develop independence and communication with the support of their teachers and teams every day. Without verbal language as a communication system, the students use unlimited forms of augmentative and alternative communication, AAC, systems to interact with their communication partners. They may request, comment, and interact socially using gestures, movements, facial expressions, objects, line drawing symbols and programs on electronic devices such as iPads! They inspire us with their different ways of learning using auditory, tactual and visual experiences, a multisensory approach in reaching the world around them.
