As a recent college graduate, I know how important maintaining an environment conducive to mental wellness and productivity is on a college campus. The items I'm requesting for my students will ensure they have different methods to both recharge their minds and stay focused. Items like headphones and digital notetakers are vital in modern college students' lives. Similar to most rural counties across the nation, the pandemic has taken a toll on my students' mental health and their abilities to focus for long periods of time. They've expressed how music helps with sensory overload and how difficult trying to learn without technology has been since resuming in-person instruction.
As we evolve as a society, it is our responsibility to make sure our underserved first-generation students of color have what they need to be as successful in college as possible. I am asking for these items to help students as they prepare for college and beyond. Not only will this provide them with the essentials they need, but it will also incentivize them to continue to strive for success. Most of these items are things they would have never been able to afford otherwise. Other items I've requested, like permanent markers, folders, and note cards will help me with enrichment activities for students to prepare for life after high school. Any contribution to this project helps tremendously!
