I am requesting much needed resources which will support student learning in Algebra I, namely SMP #4 Model with Mathematics, as the curriculum includes with each lesson real-world problems that require deriving solutions through collecting relevant facts from factual narratives, trial and error for greater learning, and group discussion promoting social and academic skills.
Student success in mathematics is critical and COVID-related learning especially in the form of distance learning has left a profoundly negative impact on learning. Resources are needed to focus student attention on the subject at hand and bring success levels back to pre-COVID benchmarks.
Much of the course curriculum relies on access to technology, so reliable access to computer power through charging stations at each pod of students are needed, and graphing, so graph stamps for quick creation of graphs as needed, as well as group problem solving, so dry erase boards for group problem solving as needed.
When students model with mathematics, when students apply the lessons to real-world problems and connect Algebra to ideas rooted in STEM or ideas rooted in their program areas, they are learning to solve real problems more than they are simply learning math.
