Coming from a low-income neighborhood in Queens, NY, my students know the very definition of what it means to struggle. However, they constantly strive to overcome these struggles, and take every opportunity to grow. My students succeed because they have no other choice. They are all very intelligent, but because of their situations at home they often don't have the advantages to have new experiences as some other students would. They are all motivated and have dreams for the future. Several of my students want to be lawyers or doctors so that they could help communities like theirs. They are all passionate about become successful individuals. If there is one thing I've realized as a teacher it is that the power of belief is astounding. I believe in them. Their communities believe in them. And, given your support, it is apparent that you believe in them, too. Together, we can help these students achieve greatness!
