As a first year teacher, there are many materials that I don't have or am trying to gather for my classroom. I've grown to realize a carpet is one of the most important resources to have in a classroom. All of our whole-group instruction takes place on our carpet. Anytime we come together as a class it is on our carpet.
To me, it is similar to a family dinner table, It's the place we all meet to learn, grow, and celebrate with one another, multiple times throughout the day.
Given this, it is important for this sacred space, to meet each student's needs, and comfort. This carpet would allow each student to not feel crammed onto a small rug. It will provide each student with their own square to sit in, allowing them to have their very own space. In working with students of varied needs, personal space and structure are crucial to be able to focus and learn.
This carpet will support my student's growth and learning during the most significant part of instruction in our day and give them ownership over their own learning.
