I am a second-year Kindergarten teacher at Oklahoma City Public Schools. Our school has an extremely high poverty rate. 90% of our students live at or below the poverty line. Because of this, most of my kiddos are getting to see and experience things for the first time in the classroom. Having new, fun and interactive things in our classroom allows my students to get their minds off of the world outside of our classroom for a while and creates a classroom environment where my students can thrive both academically and socially. While there are unique challenges that my kiddos face coming from high poverty homes, they love to learn and experience new things just like any child would. We have built a little community within these classroom walls and we love to grow and learn together.
