Being read to is a staple of every child's school experience, but what if you never saw characters who looked like you in the books? Would you question your worth when read aloud after read aloud depicted kids who didn't look like you? Even our youngest learners notice when they are left out. Help me share books with my students that send a clear message that they are seen and valued in our classrooms, communities, and the world. Every child deserves to see themselves represented in books. Each unique identity should be celebrated and what better way to show that than through an inclusive book collection. Our young learners love to read and see the world through books. As the department head for 2nd grade, I want to ensure that every student is reflected in the literature that my colleagues and I share with our students.
