This project was created in order to help my students feel comfortable in their first year in middle school. For many of my students this is the first year that they are no longer in one classroom. This is a big adjustment for my students and anyway that I can help ease that transition ultimately helps my students success in all of their other classes.
We begin the year creating a family classroom, where students should feel like have a safe place. During the beginning of the year I will meet the families of my students, in which I too want families to feel like they are at home in my classroom. One way I will do that is offer drinks/treats to the families while we discuss the upcoming goals for the 6th grade year.
Many of these supplies will help my students to be organized and successful on classroom assignments. We use paper, rulers, glue sticks, pens, and scissors to help organize our English and History work into a binder or notebook for the year. Students can reference this work throughout the year to help review materials and also see what they have learned and accomplished this year.
This donation will help my 2018-2019 school year and will impact up to 150 students. With these materials and supplies the impact can be contagious, where students feel safe, prepared, and ultimately successful in and out of all of their classes.
