Working with kindergarten you spend lots of time on the floor having whole group and learning. I have requested another carpet for my classroom because I want the students to be able to move around the room. This allows me to differentiate where my whole group for phonics and math takes place.
They are on the move! Kindergarten students need movement and believe it or not this helps significantly when it comes to their engagement. I use the carpet with instructions and games used for phonics instruction making the carpet more than just a tool they sit on by turning into a visual, living, step and sound carpet!
School is so "stool" for students especially when they are in kindergarten. They already find everything about school so fun and interactive that having flexible seating is just one more way to make it extra cool. It also allows those that have a harder time sitting still the option of something different. You can never have too many options and in kindergarten the imagination runs wild and the possibilities are endless!
