Working with the drones, students will learn to become responsible pilots as well as learn both a sport (FPV racing) and skills they can later use to start their own businesses when they turn 16. As drone hobbyists, they will learn to be responsible and ethical with their flying. Students will also have to learn to manage their drones by keeping track of costs and performing maintenance and repairs. The battery chargers have some manual settings that give students a better understanding of how to manage the batteries and save time when charging.
The drones become tools that force students to think and plan their actions before implementing them as well as having alternate plans in case something goes wrong, a necessary practice in all areas of life. The students will be required to demonstrate proficiency in these areas before they have the freedom to fly on their own. Once students have demonstrated their ability to fly and maintain the drone, they will have the opportunity to start prepping for the FAA鈥檚 Unmanned Aircraft Systems test which they can take when they turn 16.
