My students are beautiful and come from culturally diverse families, many have sociol-economic challenges, many are differently-abled, and all are incredibly "able" provided love and patience.
Many of the students and their families face incredible challenges; some are locked in their houses due to severe behaviors unable to play or attend events in their own communities. Some are intellectually challenged requiring families to be full time caretakers often dealing with unsafe and challenging behaviors. Some are so significantly impaired they require extraordinary medical intervention and full time nursing care daily. Some are chosen to be peer models who become compassionate and empathetic friends to their classmates...many of whom would NEVER be invited to a birthday party or on a play-date without them.
Our school is a Title I school with a large population of children with special needs. Walking around the hallways is an enlightening cultural and linguistic experience.
