Everyday Calendar Math is a daily, interactive math program that students love to participate in. It is fast paced, introduces new concepts each month, and reinforces concepts from the curriculum to ensure mastery. I will use this program every day as part of my daily math instruction.
Because this is my first year teaching Kindergarten, having taught higher grades in the past, I'm starting from scratch in my room. I want to provide an inviting, information-filled environment that my students can learn from at all times. I have no rugs for my students to sit on during circle times, read aloud times, etc. Right now I have tape on the floor to designate where my students should sit. However, I believe that a "Kindergarten" carpet, if you will, would add to the reinforcement of letters, numbers, and sounds while providing a warmer, more comfortable area for my students to recognize as a place of learning.
A heavy-duty pencil sharpener with options to sharpen larger, Kindergarten-sized pencils, as well as #2 pencils, is essential in order to have everything ready to go for my kiddos when they step foot in their classroom. I'm currently using other teachers' sharpeners. We are already going through pencils like crazy and they need sharpening every day so I need a pencil sharpener that will last. My "teacher cart" broke while I was using it to move rooms. I use a cart daily to take home my school laptop and work that I grade or plan in the evenings. It will help me to organize my lesson plans and instruction and enable me to carry projects and books back and forth.
