My classroom is here to support students who are struggling with math. One of the top reasons students drop out of high school is because they can't pass Algebra 1. My job is to make sure that doesn't happen to my kids.
I work at a Title I elementary school in Texas, with students who are economically disadvantaged, and often live in less than ideal home situations. During weekends and school breaks, the majority of my students receive backpacks donated from the local food shelter that are full of food for them to eat while they are not at school. There are so many factors rooting against them, but they are determined to pull ahead and succeed. Many of my students are falling behind because they can't get to school everyday, or don't have any support at home to excel in school. Many come to school sleepy or hungry; others are unable to afford their medication regularly. They want so badly to succeed, and try everyday to make someone proud. They deserve a fair chance to succeed!
