The materials that I am requesting, tablets, clip on microphones, and tripods, will assist in creating a student driven learning environment that fosters a sense of community and encourages scholars to share their stories with students around the world. Scholars will first participate in a novel study centered around the memoir Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers. While reading the memoir, students will participate in analytical discussions that will strengthen their critical reading skills.
The project will provide the scholars with an opportunity to employ elements of fiction in order to bring their stories to life. After writing a memoir of their own and participating in the peer editing process, students will use the tablets, microphones and tripods to record their memoirs and upload to a student created blog.
Lastly, the materials requested will be used throughout the academic year for students to create how-to videos using the New Jersey's Student Learning Standards to teach reading and writing strategies to their classmates and peers around the world.
