In the 2018/2019 school year my school will be launching PBL, or Project Based Learning. As a K teacher, this means that my students will have the opportunity to engage in dramatic play, discover the natural world in a science center, create at the art center, and explore and experiment at the sensory table. Kinetic sand will be an important component of the sensory center, where students can feel, build, explore, and discover new sensations. Sensory experiences are especially important for students with sensory processing needs, and students with autism. The science station will rotate with different organisms that relate to our literacy and social emotional curriculum. We will begin the year with a unit study Eric Carl and the caterpillars/butterflies will be an integral part of this unit. In addition to the PBL supplies we are relaunching our math curriculum, Eureka, with a focus on fluency practice. The rekenreks, foam dice and other math supplies will help us to execute this amazing curriculum.
