I work with a great group of 1st graders that come in each morning full of energy and ready to experience the world. Our school is an open-design, Title I school. Students are chosen via lottery from all portions of the city which allows for a mix of socioeconomic levels to be represented. My students enjoy working together and building community with one another in our homebase and with students in other homebases. They thrive on learning with hand-on activities that also allow for social interaction.
I believe every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and accepted in my classroom.
We do community circles and other community building activities to help accomplish this. Students also learn about life skills like caring and honesty and how to put those skills in use.
