Scholastic News has always been a rescource that has been extrordinary in helping students realize their full potential. It is especially great for ESL (English As A Second Language) students, because the readings provide scaffolds for struggling readers and a variety of activities to enhance their knowledge of current topics and grasp of English academic language, as well as, grammar.
Students greatly benefit from Scholastic News articles, because the text is something they have discussed in another class or experienced in their own lives. For example, the first issue is about being a refugee, which some of my students may have had experiences as a refugee or their extended family has.
