I teach in a rural community in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Our school is predominantly low-income with over 90% qualifying for free and reduced lunch. My students often appear as a challenge because of the multiple hardships many of them face in their home lives. If I can keep them actively engaged in the material I present, they make tremendous gains academically.
