At our school, we are currently transitioning into a Dual Language model. This is, our students will eventually graduate bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish, being fluent academically and college and career ready both in English and Spanish.. But that is not enough in the XXI century; there is another common language they will need to success in the future: they need to become digitally literate as well.
My wonderful second graders are ready to become leading citizens in our community. However, they are challenged to become digitally experts outside the school. Unfortunately, we cannot offer the level of differentiation with our current equipment at our site either. We need more chromebooks to ensure the 1:1 ratio, so all of our students could operate in their own chromebook to make sure that they are internalizing their technology learning. But worry not. My students are lucky: their teacher is highly trained in Blended Learning and Digital Literacy. I have both the motivation and the knowledge to help them get there. We are only waiting for committed and caring people who can help them achieve their dreams!
Whether it is writing informational essays on google docs, learning to read through differentiating reading platforms, presenting content based projects on slides, learning typing skills, or staying curious by watching endless science and social studies educational videos, they need the means to access that knowledge; they need YOU. Investing in our kids means investing in our future.
