The majority of time students spend during the day is at school. It should be a place that is comfortable for them and a place where they are engaged and active learners. This can become difficult at times when students are asked to sit in hard chairs and at desks during their school day. Flexible seating offers my students the opportunity to move around the room during their learning throughout the day. Instead of staying stuck in a regular uncomfortable chair they will be able to sit on yoga ball chairs, inflatable donut chairs, foam cushions, or the stackable stools. This will allow my second grade students to focus more on their learning and not how uncomfortable they may be in restrictive furniture. This also helps students who may have difficulty controlling their bodies to stay still and offers them the opportunity to move around more as needed.
The flexible seating options that have been requested will be used by students on a daily basis throughout the classroom in the following areas; classroom library, literacy/math stations, technology station, guided reading table, etc.
