Having these materials in class makes the difference between doing their work for a grade and finishing their work with pride. While paper, colored pencils, and crayons are generally expected in a classroom, they go fast with 170 kids. I can't wait to provide them with newer materials!
As an English teacher, I promote independent learning every day in my classroom. I try to keep an expansive classroom library on hand so the young people have access to the most popular books of the day/week/month to keep them interested in what they are reading. Having more books come into my classroom will keep the variety fun for my students who are refinding their love of reading.
