Donations to this project will help provide my learners with multisensory manipulatives to engage multiple senses in the process of learning to read. As my students progress from interacting with the Phonemic Awareness Boxes and the Touch Read Phonics Word Match to reading and writing with the Magnetic Letters Kit and the Double-Sided Magnetic Write Wipe Board, they will have countless opportunities to play and interact with the phonemes of words while reading and producing words. My students will be able to physically move the letters to create words and manipulate these words into different word parts such as onset rime, prefixes/suffixes, root words, and syllables. They will be able to collaborate with their peers using these same materials to create word families and to work on spelling patterns. My students will also be able to use these same magnetic boards along with the requested magnetic math manipulatives during math time to introduce and reinforce math skills being taught. The magnetic calendar will reinforce daily life skills with visuals to support functional literacy. These materials will also allow my students more freedom to move around the room in order to freely collaborate with their peers. This movement and collaboration will help my students to learn and develop much-needed social and emotional skills that have been lost while living during this pandemic. My students will interact with the requested materials to engage in cross-curricular reading and writing to bridge the gap to reading to learn. All of these materials will be used repeatedly to support the literacy needs of my learners and to promote positive, meaningful social interactions in our classroom.
