To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use these headphones and reading/writing games for personalized learning stations. These learning station options will provide a variety of ways to practice their reading and writing skills. Students have such varied skill levels that they need individual and small group attention to show an adequate amount of growth.
During a given class period the students will work independently, practice skills in a small group, and conference with the teacher as they transition through multiple activities for reading and writing. These different practices help students to master independent skills using Lexia or writing (with headphones), build relationships while working cooperatively (using the interactive games), and gain individual attention from the teacher for reading and writing conferences. In addition, the headphones will be used for students who have speech-to-text accommodation for writing. Since fifth grade is a tested grade for both reading and writing, this model of personalized learning has been very helpful. My students are more engaged than ever before. Class time flies by and I find myself connecting with individuals who would not typically be as verbal in a whole-class discussion. These tools will make preparation and practice a bit easier and more fun.
