As I mentioned before, my kids are in survival mode. Every little bit helps. I go to Sam鈥檚 Club and buy snacks in bulk. I spend about $400 - $500 a month on snacks. Some of my kids have revealed to me that they have been taking extra snacks home to their siblings and for them to eat later. I would love to have extra help money to help purchase extra snacks for our students to take home. I would also like to request money for hands-on activities.
Kids say all of the time how boring school is. Kids tend to learn better with hands on activities, so why not do more hands-on activities, especially since COVID-19 has pushed our lives towards the computer. Our students are getting tired of having to work on google classroom all of the time. I teach computers and aviation. The curriculum that we use for aviation has many hands-on activities that adds up to about $800.00 each year. For computers, there are not many free hands-on activities that I have been able to find. On teachers-pay-teachers, there are so many opportunities for my students, of course, its does cost money.
This year, my school did not provide me with a computer science curriculum, so I have used code.org, khan academy, and cyber.org. I would love to be able to have a curriculum that follows the standards of Oklahoma, which would help take a lot of stress off of me, because this is my first-year teaching, and it is during a pandemic.
