Because of their circumstances, my girls often need a little extra motivation to get comfortable in the classroom. Once or twice a year, I like to open up our own little store for them to put their math skills to work and shop for a few fun things.
The girls love shopping, and I love that they are adding up purchases, changing percents to decimals, and counting change while they do it. It's a great way to incorporate math in a fun way and for a group of girls that don't often get to shop for themselves.
They always enjoy snacks, notepads and fun pens, and anything they can wear. They will be excited about their purchases and won't even mind that it involved a math lesson!
