My students are moderately cognitive disabled 6-8 graders. They are on full alternative curriculum. They all lack social and communication skills of other students their age as well as academic skills. These items like flashcards and bandages will help my students reconnect. We will reconnect with each other and learn about each other鈥檚 heritages. We will reconnect with to our own histories of our heritages. Through understanding each other鈥檚 pasts and where we come from, we will build an understanding of each other. This will in turn foster mutual trust between my students and myself as well. Trust inspires the desire to be better for each other. When we feel believed in and understood, we are more motivated and likely to attempt things that we might be scared to attempt alone!
