Currently in our class, we utilize small white boards and dry erase markers for a variety of tasks and activities. We use them for spelling practice during ELA centers, with students writing their weekly words and erasing when done. During math instruction, students use them to give me feedback during new instruction. I will display a problem or question for them to solve on their boards. Students all display their answers at one time, and I can see immediately who is grasping new concepts and who might need more attention and practice.
For students, the ability to use learning tools which are not just pencil and paper is an immediate incentive. The white boards and dry erase markers are always a favorite, but they can get expensive over time. The markers need to be replaced several times during the school year and eventually the boards as well. These Boogie Boards would give me a cost-effective way to offer unique practice in the classroom as well as give the students another tool for learning and engagement.
