When the students did not return to the classroom in the spring of 2019, they were thrown into distance learning. Distance learning brought with it many learning curves, many of the students learned to interact with their teachers and classmates over zoom. They learned how to use learning platforms like Canvas, to complete assignments and turn them in electronically.
Most of the students were excited to return to, "In person learning", when it happened. Returning to, "In person learning", during a pandemic, brought with it its own struggles. Wearing masks everyday at school, meant everyone would struggle to hear one another. The struggle to hear one another is real. If you have worn a mask and tried to be heard, you know what I am talking about.
Why is it important for students to be heard? Contributing to their school community gives young learners a sense of belonging, develops self-esteem and can lead to more respectful relationships. When students can be heard it cultivates community within the classroom, it creates an inviting and safe space and learning is easier. Having a magnified speaker and microphone for the classroom will facilitate a friendlier work environment and more learning can happen.
