Reading is the number one way we acquire language, but let's face it-many students are not interested in reading books. By creating a class library filled with books and magazines of diverse topics and various levels of difficulty, students can choose subjects in which they are interested and at the level that does not frustrate them. The process of choosing something to read is more exciting when a reader sees the books and magazines displayed and organized.
My students have often found themselves isolated and distanced from their friends and teachers during this pandemic. By having digital magazines available as well as hard copies in the classroom, students will be able to connect with the material and each other in a better way.
Each day as we start class with free-choice reading, students will have a wider selection of books and magazines as well as bookshelves that display the material and make it more inviting. The more they read, the more their language skills will grow!
