Using something as simple as a whiteboard and marker has always engaged my learners in the classroom, especially during our math time. When students meet with me for small group Guided Math, we often use whiteboards to model strategies and for guided practice. Whiteboards allow students to show their thinking, and also allows me to check their progress and reasoning. However, when meeting at a table in small group, there never seems to be enough room for all of their boards and materials. Having a teacher table where students can gather and use the table as a whiteboard would be highly engaging as well as convenient. As students, we are used to hearing "Do not draw on the table!" Providing this type of learning environment would be exciting and fun for my eager learners.
